Description
WINE TASTING NOTES:
Our Central Coast Merlot is a juicy and complex wine, featuring aromas of plum, blackberry and vanilla. The rich, full-bodied palate offers notes black cherry and blueberry with a hint of spice on the finish.
VITICULTURE NOTES:
The 2016 harvest in California was early, with exceptional fruit quality. We saw a warm spring and early summer with cool nighttime temperatures. A mild July and August allowed grapes to slowly and evenly reach maturity. We selected our Merlot from a combination of premier Central Coast vineyards, primarily Monterey and San Luis Obismo counties, where large diurnal swings allow for ideal, even ripening.
WINEMAKER NOTES:
The grapes for our Central Coast Merlot were destemmed and cold soaked for two days to enhance the extraction of color and flavor from the fruit. Fermentation occurred over a period of two weeks at a maximum temperature of 85°F. Only the free-run juice was selected for this wine, which was aged on oak to impart notes of toast and pepper to the final blend.
